BRAD’S BLOG – OCTOBER 2018

September is traditionally the busiest month of the year for emergency preparedness activity, and it truly was crazy around the CERT Program desk. October looks like it’s going to be another busy month.

September brought us a “Lifts, Carries and Cribbing” class (thanks to Karen & Dan Dyckman and Phil Sandeville); a Shelter Activation drill along with an EOC activation in support- (plenty of lessons learned there!); a night-time Activation drill in Boothbay Park (Kudos to Henry Surya and Regina Trapp for excellent organization); Disaster Preparedness Day at the County Fair Event Center (where Ruth Sieber impressed us all with her karaoke vocal skills during setup!), and on top of it all, we started another series of CERT training classes, this time in San Mateo! Never a dull moment around here…

October features several events I want to share. We just completed our annual Fire Department Open House event in Foster City. It was a great success, with even more people attending than last year. Many thanks to all the CERT members who helped out. Couldn’t have done it without all of you!

We have a “Get Ready” emergency preparedness class at 10:00 am on Saturday (13th) followed by a Backpack Organizing meeting at the Corporation Yard from 2:00-3:00. We need to make sure all the gear we give out to our new members is complete and consistent. A triage/ first aid practice session in Marlin Park will be hosted by John Chamberlain on Saturday morning October 20, don’t miss this great opportunity to learn some new tips and tricks for your first aid! A CPR class will be held for those that need it on the 24thin the EOC. (Sign-up on for all of these on Neon).

I am pleased to announce we are starting a NEW SERIES OF SATURDAY CERT CLASSES in Foster City on Saturday October 27th. This is welcome news for those folks who find week-night classes too much of a challenge to attend. With two modules each day, the course will be completed in just 4 Saturdays. Spread the word; there’s still plenty of open spaces. Dates are October 27, November 3, 10 and Skills day on November 17. Make sure you get signed up for Skills Day when the notification comes out. We would love to see you there!

Finally, our CERT HOLIDAY PARTY will be held on Friday night December 14. Mark your calendars!

Thanks again for all your support, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
