Missed Opportunity? On Saturday July 22, a small group of CERT members practiced triage and treatment skills at Bridgeview Park. John Chamberlain, Diane Miller and myself led the group through several scenarios, using a group of “disaster victims” who had a variety of injuries to evaluate and treat. This was a great opportunity to learn/practice/review our triage and treatment skills, and learn some new approaches and “tricks”. Everyone had a great time. We hope to repeat this exercise in other FC locations this year, so if you hear of an opportunity to participate, don’t miss it. It’s open to all CERT members regardless of Neighborhood.
Congratulations to new Ham Radio operators!
At a recent training class in Palo Alto, several members of FC CERT gained their ham radio licenses. Congratulations to Cathy Keys, Gina Locsin, Paula Lee, Tina Lam, William Chao and Jeff Zollars! Look out for additional classes in the future.
Maintenance Day at the Yard
A Maintenance Day was held recently at the Corporation Yard, and several volunteers came out to help. With all the equipment CERT is responsible for, it is necessary to periodically clean, maintain and inventory everything. At the same time, we built an additional 25 backpacks of supplies, ready for distribution to future CERT graduates. Many thanks to Sue Asmar, Ruth Chofre, Claire Davis, Dan Dyckman, Karen Dyckman, Cathy Keyes, Jim Main, Willie Orbino, Karin Patterson, Larry Shaw, Clint Steele, Judy Steele and Wayne Weathers.
We have a number of training opportunities and events coming up. Here’s a sample:
Aug 3: Communications (radios) & Forms training drill (6:30, EOC)
Aug 10: CPR/AED class. National Safety Council certified. ($29). Call 650-286-3380 to register.
